Working to Secure the Fundamental Needs of All Our Students

The ISD student population is trending downward. Less funding for our schools and programs means cuts are imminent and necessary. We must spend smarter, ensure the return on investment of existing programs, and reprioritize funding to ensure we’re meeting the basic needs of all students

Nearly 20% of ISD students have special education needs, mental health resources in our schools are overtaxed, and 10% of ISD students live in poverty. We need to find ways to serve the needs of each and every child in the ISD so they can all achieve to the best of their abilities.  Additionally, understanding and celebrating our district’s diversity is vital to creating welcoming and inclusive learning communities where all students, teachers, and families have a strong sense of belonging.

School board members serve the community, first and foremost. I’ll be a vocal advocate for our children and families. I’ll work to create clearer communication about how our educational programs are performing and strive to provide insight about Board decisions

As many as 20% of ISD students don’t pursue post-secondary education. We need to create alternate career paths for these students: skilled trades education, apprenticeships, and help navigating the path into technical schools

Teachers, students and families were strained during the pandemic. We must create a sustainable resource model to support our educators. We must help students recover academically and emotionally from the disrupted learning environment. Our future planning should include the lessons learned from the pandemic so we’re better prepared for the future
